I finally got this replaced today. The old controller had some weird issue to start restarting itself every few seconds during the mid day (during heavy sun light). (Ref. Video below)
How to replace a solar changing controller:
- Cover the solar panels with towel to make sure there is no energy input coming in if you are doing this during the day
- Unscrew both screws to get the solar controller out from the panel
- Make sure to label the location of each wires. I labeled them with a maker with 1 – 4 location
- Unscrew and attach the wire to the new controller one at a time to avoid the wiring touching each other during the process. (However, if they touch, it is not the end of the world. The configuration on the van is already helping to prevent the damage from it.)
- Done! Set your controller with the type of battery you use. Mine is AGM.
- Remove the towel from the solar panels on the roof.
Tools you will need:
- Small phillip head screw driver to remove the controller from the panel
- Short screw driver to unscrew the wires from the panel
