Reflection

People try to get away from it all – to the country, to the beach, to the mountains. You always wish that you could too. Which is idiotic: you can get away from it anytime you like.

By going within.

No where you can go is more peaceful – more free of interruptions – than your own soul. Especially if you have other things to rely on. An instant’s recollection and there it is: complete tranquillity. And by tranquillity I mean a kind of harmony.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 121 – 180) Translated by Gregory Hays – Book 5 # 3

My teachings are easy to understand and easy to put into practice.

Yet your intellect will never grasp them, and if you try to practice them, you’ll fail.

My teachings are older than the world.

How can you grasp their meaning?

If you want to know me, look inside your heart.
