I had to change my plan a bit because of the road closure on HWY 1 due to mud/rock slide. I was able to come to visit Big Sur for the first time for only a few hours before heading back the same way I came from to go to Paso Robles, CA via HWY 101 instead. Otherwise, I would have been able to take HWY1 all the way to Paso Robles. Anyway, it was a good experience no matter what I got to see both Big Sur and HWY 101 on the same day.
