NV – Lamoille Canyon – A day hike on Island Lake Trail

I had time today to explore the harvest host stay’s area… Without knowing anything about this place, I was blown away by the beauty of this place. This place reminds me of the mountains I’m Crested Butte, CO. Maybe it is because it has almost the same elevation… Which is around 7k feet.

Powerhouse Picnic Area

My first stop was Powerhouse Picnic area. I found a pullout spot just outside of the picnic area that still got good phone service.

I drove in the picnic area and found that it is not free. There is $7 fee for day use. The area is really nice with toilet and many different sections with picnic table but I didn’t stay.

You pretty much lose cell service after you pass Powerhouse picnic area.

Lamoille Camp

I drove to check out Lamoille Camp area. There are several dispersed camp sites here… But most of them, you will need 4×4… Only 2 spots that might work for my van.

So i parked at one of those spots to hang out and make breakfast. (No phone service here.)

Ruby Crest National Recreation Trailhead

Then I drove all the way to the end of the road, which is called Ruby Crest National Recreation Trailhead. I saw a family with 2 small kids walking up a trail so I followed them.

Island Lake Trail

I came to find out the name of the trail at the sign. It is Island Lake Trail. You go 2 miles up to the lake and come back the same way. I really enjoyed it.

This seems to be a trail for families… They all went up there and swim in this freezing cold lake. I saw what seems to be good camping spots up top too. But I didn’t see any backpackers today… Maybe because it it Sun.
